Israel Proves To Be Increasingly Dangerous for Gays

I'm honestly a bit pissed at Israel for bombing the Beirut airport, so when I found an article pointing out how dangerous Israel is for gays, after this week's article putting Israel on a pedestal, I was bittersweetly happy. Hitting back at Hizbullah is one thing, but destroying the livelihood of the thousands of Lebanese who depend on tourism is another. Hizbullah is not directly related to the Lebanese government, and, in confrontations, attacks on soldiers should not be retaliated with attacks on civilians. But I digress.

On the gay front, according to Arutz Sheva, a flier in Jerusalem is offering 20,000 shekels to anyone who kills participants in World Pride 2006. Notice that there is also a banner at the top for "Preventing, Treating Homosexuality". Enough said.

That does not prove Israel is "dangerous to gays."

There are nut jobs across the world. One person distributes a flier, and Israel is "dangerous to gays"???

That said, my opinion is that Israel did what it had to do to prevent Hezbollah from using the airport to launch rockets and transport weaponry. The Lebanese government should have prevented Hezbollah from misusing the airport, if they wanted to avoid the IDF's attack.

mmm, so according to miss r, Israel should also ban the illegal settlers from using Tel Aviv airport...

please, miss r.. your logic is beyond flawed. What we are witnessing in Lebanon (and Gaza too) is nothing less than collective punishment. The whole world is witnessing Israeli fascism (again).. and eventually, one day, some day, Israel's Zionist system will be sent to history's trash bin, right on top of Apartheid.

oh, and as far as gays, yes.. the fact that Israel is rapidly moving towards a right wing/religious fundementalist system makes quite a danger not just to gays but to all kinds of minorities.

The government of Lebanon is responsible for the actions of people in Lebanon attacking Israel. If it says it cannot stop them, well,it should resign as it cannot do the job of a normal government.

Lebanon should have signed a peace treaty with Israel long ago and thus avoided this will notice that there is no warfare going on between Israel and Jordan and Egypt.

Why won't Lebanon stand up to these armed militias who use Lebanon to wage their ideological wars against Israel?

Lebanon cannot expect to be taken seriously if it won't stand up for itself.

Israel is not occupying Jordanian or Egyptian territory, as it is with Syria and Lebanon.

Furthermore, why should Lebanon have to shoulder the burden of Palestinian refugees that belong in Palestine? Until Israel agrees to let them return, there will be no peace.

Plus, how can Lebanon stand up for itself? In my opinion, if Lebanon were to stand up for itself, Ben Gurion would be dust right now. Pro-Palestinian groups, which lack the advanced military might of Israel have no choice but to act the way they do in disputes. Sure, I want peace, but Israel doesn't want fair peace. It wants more of the West Bank, it want refugees to remain burdens of neighboring governments, it wants to be the only nuclear power in the region, it wants, it wants, it wants.

I can understand the worries of al Fil; it can't be easy living in Lebanon today. 3 days ago we did not have these problems, and then Hizbullah grabbed 2 soldiers and it was on. why did they grab the soldiers?

The refugees in Lebanon are a problem for them and you. This situation is the result of losing a war. It is terrible to lose a war, ask the Palestinians.

Israel is a difficult neighbour, I could see that when I lived in Jerusalem. The reality of life is that countries must protect themselves and Lebanon has never acted to protect herself. There is always a price to be paid for not protecting yourself.

What you say is all true.. I cannot disagree with you; but the hard realities remain and poor wonderful Lebanon remains very badly served by several generations of politicians.

Courage, mes amis, courage.

You talk of Hizbullah as if they were some alien force in Lebanon. You forget that these guys are Lebanese and are part of the fabric of our society (wether we like their political stance or not).

Fact is that if it wasn't for Hizbullah, Israel would still be occupying South Lebanon with many of our people being tortured in their jail.

The real issue here is not Hizbullah's action, but rather the continued occupation and oppressions of over ONE Million Human Beings in Palestine. Let's face it, Gaza is nothing more than one big concentration camp.

The abdction of Israeli soldiers did not come from nowhere... Israelis routinely abduct Lebanese and Palestinians and throw them in jail. Hell, they even kidnapped and jailed Palestinian leaders who were democratically elected by the people. And the world stood silent...

There are Lebanese people in Israeli jails.. Palestinians galore.. women.. children.. and yet, no outrage from the US or the world community. Then, a few soldiers are abducted by Hamas and Hizbullah in a small effort at getting some balance.. and the whole world goes bezerk.. how fucked up is that???

Tell us, do you really believe that an Israeli life is worth more than that of a Lebanese? or a Palestinian?

Israel's lame effort at trying to get us to turn our back on Hizbullah is going to backfire...for today, we are all Hizbullah.. gay or straight, christian, jewish or muslims... when you fuck with one Lebanese, you fuck with all of us.
